Twin Suicide-Bombing

Due to irreconcilable ethnic tensions, as well as the contradiction between the ruling and opposition and western powers, Syria and Lebanon have been in a long-term social unrest. The governing party paid their attention on how to make the country earn more money by oil instead of trying to improve people’s standard of living and quality of life. Thus, there are some people who want to stand up and fight for their rights. However, the innocent people had to pay for the conflict. Like the twin suicide-boomings in Lebanon’s capital, four victims dead. Is this the effective way to change the situation? I do not think so. Therefore, when we are trying to fight for our rights, we should think of methods that reasonable and feasible rather than using the unnecessary sacrifice in exchange of narrow victory.

Suicide bomber responsible for deadly bus attack in Egypt.

This article is regarding the bombing of a bus in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula which led to the death of four people, one Egyptian bus driver and three Koreans and leaving more than 20 injured. The bus, carrying mostly Korean tourists, was waiting to cross into Israel at the border when the blast took place. An al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis has claimed responsibility for the bombing, saying it had previously warned it was planning an attack.  I strongly disagree with the act of the terrorism. I believe the tourists had got nothing to do with the Islamist militant group and they were solely victims of this terrorist act. It is morally wrong to target defenseless people and it is already wrong when such an act is committed. Claiming the lives of innocent people is truly an atrocious act. The terrorists were targeting the government in Egypt but they threaten to take the lives of tourists by bombing tourist attractions. Based on the YouTube video, it stated that this was the first bombing carried out on tourists since the overthrow of President Mohamed Morsi and there is fear that there will be more to come. Terrorist acts not only result in fear among the people, it affects a country politically, socially and economically. Terrorism should not be tolerated in any form.

Singapore has stepped up its security after one of the raids the MacDonald House bombing  on 10 March 1965 by two Indonesian saboteurs during Konfrontasi. Singapore also took preventive steps to deter and detect terrorist acts from being carried out. Further measures were taken after the September 11 attacks in 2001. Immigration checks at airports and checkpoints in Singapore became more stringent.

One incident was the Singapore embassies attack plot was a plan in 2001 by Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) to bomb the diplomatic missions and attack personnel of the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Israel based in Singapore. There were also several other targets. The plot was uncovered in December 2001 due to swift investigation and intelligence gathered. This shows that Singapore will not loosen its guts on fighting against terrorism.
